Taking my daughter for her first haircut was extremely difficult for the whole family. I guess there is something about a stranger pointing scissors towards your head that makes it scary. However, now that she had gone through this a few times, she loves Snip-Its! Created by a mom, Snip-Its really knows what it is doing! First, there are several computers with some child-friendly activities, to help make the wait more manageable. There are individual televisions at each haircut station, which show a short cartoon, and the stylists’ stations each have bubbles to help entertain your child.
After the haircut is complete, your child is given a choice between animal crackers or lollipops (actually, in our case, mom got to choose for her!) and then they use a plastic card to get a prize from the big prize machine! Finally, my daughter was given her choice of balloon color and, to my amazement, the receptionist behind the desk was fully prepared with a long-handled stick when my daughter let go of the balloon and it sailed up to the sky.
So, how are the haircuts? They are actually quite good. I am always impressed that the stylists do a wonderful job given a wiggling child. Snip-Its is definitely worth a visit, as they make getting a haircut (which can be very scary) a fun experience. Visit Snipits.com for locations

I am Joanna Meiseles, founder and president of Snip-its, and I want to thank you for this nice commentary on my business. Snip-its has grown a lot over the last few years - we have 52 salons open and more to come in 2007 - but I am a local mom who lives in Wayland (I lived in Natick for ten years before moving to Wayland in 2004) and balances work, four children, a husband, and a busy household. As we grow nationally, I never want to forget the local nature of my business. It’s moms like you and me who seek out great experiences for our children and write about them and share them with others. That’s how we build our reputation - one smile at a time. So thanks for spreading the word about Snip-its and thanks to the amazing hair dressers at Snip-its who know how to deliver magic!
